Man, it’s so tough being a fan of a team who rarely makes the playoffs. But as depressing as that sounds, I guess that proves how loyal I am to my team. Through the ups (which are rare) and downs (too many).

Now this isn’t meant to be a post about how those who support losing teams are “better fans” than those who support winning teams, but really, for fans of consistently winning teams, sometimes I question their validity. Not all fans, but in a general sense. The fans of teams, who necessarily haven’t “paid their dues.” You know what I mean? I just feel that it’s easy to call yourself a fan of a certain team when all you’ve known is winning. No lengthy periods of heartbreak to really test your loyalty (And please note, if you know you’re a loyal fan of your team, you shouldn’t take offense to this at all. There’s shitty fans for every team). Silly correlation, but take what Dr. Erskine told Captain America. “This is why you were chosen. Because a strong man, who has known power all his life, will lose respect of that power. But a weak man knows the value of strength, and knows compassion.”

I guess what I’m trying to get across is that I just feel like it would be good for every fan if their teams went through a length of suck to regain that true value of winning in case it’s been lost and/or forgotten. That’s all. Because let’s face it, it’s no coincidence that the teams that win day in and day out have the biggest fan bases. Maybe this could even thread out all the fair weathered fans. No one likes those.
